We have the Flu Vaccine available, free for GMS and DVC card holders. This can be availed of as walk-in service. We are now offering a service to businesses where one of our GPs can attend your place of work to administer influenza vaccinations to employees. The influenza season has now commenced and often continues until April. It is quite contagious and can lead to work absenteeism of 4-6 days on average per episode. We are also anticipating a particularly heavy flu season this year based on the experiences of Australia and New Zealand where there has been a doubling of cases compared to last year. Vaccination has been shown to be very safe and effective in preventing influenza. Our very own Dr Catherine Wilkinson has been getting behind the HSE campaign to promote uptake of the Flu Vaccine.
